ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

In spite of a laboratory director who covers the anal
cleft on his scalp with a brand-new, ten-gallon hat;
belittling insults, berating criticism, and bald-face
lies from the same; endless misrepresentation in the
clueless media; a lab-wide standdown because of a
clerical error and falsified safety statistics; empty
threats of a future permanent shutdown if I "don't get
it"; an end to the semi-weekly emancipation provided
by the 9/80; an impending contract change with
guaranteed benefit reductions; the retirement and
exodus of mentors, friends, and colleagues to follow;
STOP training (soon to be followed by STOP caring and
STOP thinking); overall low morale with no end in
sight; a rapidly deteriorating working environment;
and upper-level managers with few scientific
credentials insisting that micromanagement, earned
value estimates, and gant charts will foster
scientific research; I still completed this work ...
under the auspices of the U. S. Department of Energy,
under contract W--7405--ENG--36 with the University of California.

Comments:
Recently, a paper of mine was returned to me by the LANL classification people saying something to the effect that it "didn’t have a proper acknowledgment". I see what they meant now! Thank you Anonymous!

Never before have I seen a place that is at lower morale than LANL at this
moment. It is truly incredible. There appears to be no hope for a better
future. Everyone seems to be looking over their shoulders hoping they will
not be the next person to get a severe beating for the most trivial of
infractions from Nanos and company. It is a sick working environment. Our
friends and colleagues are either leaving, or seriously preparing to get out.
We are not at some "tipping point", unless the place we are tipping towards
is an abyss. This "Acknowledgments" statement was perfect. It succinctly
sums up our current situation.
